About Roto-Rooter
Roto-Rooter can be traced all the way back to 1933 when Samuel Blanc created a funny-looking sewer cleaning machine from a washing machine motor, roller skate wheels, cables and blades. This device was able to cut tree roots from sewer lines without requiring digging. Sam’s wife Lettie, christened the device as the “Roto-Rooter” a year later.
Officially founded in 1935, Roto-Rooter has become the largest provider of plumbing and drain cleaning services in North America. In 1980, the Blanc family sold Roto-Rooter to Cinciannati-based Chemed Corporation.
